The Portland Waterfront Heats Up With the 2nd Annual Maine Hot Wing Cook-Off Challenge and Block Party: Benefits Make-A-Wish Maine®
On Saturday June 22, more than 30 Maine restaurants will flock to compete at the 2nd Annual Maine Hot Wing Cook-Off Challenge at Ocean Gateway on the Portland waterfront. The festivities will kick off Friday night with a Portland Waterfront Block Party co-hosted by HOT 104.7FM and featuring DJ Ryan Deelon and DJ Grooves.
This event is organized by Our Tickets, Tours and Events and proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish Maine®.
“The goal for this year is to raise $6,000 to grant a child’s wish.” noted Our Tickets’ Event and Promotions Manager Dan Bolduc. “Last year’s event at the Residence Inn by Marriott sold out at 400 attendees who came from all over New England to try the best wings Maine has to offer. This year we are holding this under a 7,500 square foot tent at Ocean Gateway to allow for 800+ attendees; rain or shine.”
More than 30 restaurants will compete for a chance to win cash prizes and bragging rights in four categories: People’s Choice Award, Best Traditional, Most Creative, and Hottest of the Hot.
Attendees will enjoy all the wings they can eat for just $20. The cost for the Friday Portland Waterfront Block Party is $10. The event will also provide hot wing lovers a special Wing Eating Challenge for a chance to win $100. Gritty McDuff’s and Shipyard Brewing Company are the official beer sponsors of the Mumford & Sons Gentlemen of the Road Stopover in Portland, Maine on the Eastern Promenade. This August 4th Portland event is the first U.S. Stopover of just four hand selected cities nationwide and is expected to draw 16,000 people. The Stopover tours are known for celebrating the best of local culture and Gritty’s and Shipyard are two of Portland’s oldest and most iconic breweries.
Gritty’s and Shipyard beers will be served in a beer garden throughout the event and will also be featured during premiere celebrations all weekend throughout the city, including pre- and after-parties at the State Theatre.
This Stopover features music from Mumford & Sons, St. Vincent, Dawes, The Maccabees, The Apache Relay, Simone Felice, Haim and will be emceed by comedian Reggie Watts. At only 5 years old, Finn is battling an aggressive form of brain cancer. A fundraiser has been set for tonight at all Portland Pie locations to raise money to help him and his family.
