Eco Appetito event to support Ferry Beach Ecology School

Eco Appetito event to support Ferry Beach Ecology School

Eat, Drink and be Merry to Support Ferry Beach Ecology School
Sunday, October 2, 2011

Spend a Sunday afternoon in October enjoying the best of what Maine has to offer and support environmental education at Ferry Beach Ecology School in Saco. The 4th Annual Eco Appetito event will be hosted by Lee Skawinski, chef and owner of Cinque Terre Restaurant in Portland on Sunday, October 2nd from Noon - 3pm.

Eco Appetito is a celebration of locally grown and produced foods, beverages and desserts. Chef Lee Skawinski will create a scrumptious menu using food items donated by local vendors. Some of this year's vendors include Bangs Island Mussels, Longfellow's Creamery, Borealis Breads, Farmers' Gate Market and Gelato Fiasco. Event attendees will be treated to delicious appetizers, fantastic silent auction items and entertainment from the staff of Ferry Beach Ecology School.

All proceeds from Eco Appetito benefit the Food for Thought program at Ferry Beach Ecology School.
Ferry Beach Ecology School teaches the science of ecology and the practice of sustainability to elementary and middle school students throughout New England at its ocean side campus on Saco Bay. Ferry Beach Ecology School offers eight distinct eco systems within walking distance including the beach, the forest, sand dunes, tide pools and the salt marsh.

All lessons are taught outdoors keeping young people active and engaged in the learning process. School groups participate in day programs on the Ferry Beach campus or residential programs involving overnight trips to the school sleeping in dorms and sharing meals in the dining hall. Ferry Beach Ecology School celebrates healthy food choices by offering locally grown, organic products in the dining hall as much as possible. Food systems lessons are taught in the organic teaching garden and with the onsite compost and greenhouse.

Tickets to Eco Appetito are $40 per person and can be ordered online or reserved by calling 283-9951.

Space is limited and this event will sell out!
