For lunch I prefer a bright and lively place so Peppers Garden and Grill in Winthrop was just the spot. They offer both a bar area with tables and booths and a large dining room. My husband and I had decided to eat in the bar area. It has an open and airy feeling due to the tall windows and skylights. And the tongue and groove walls and earth-toned paint colors make for a cozy space.
Peppers offers your typical lunch menu: appetizers, soups and stews, salads, burgers, and sandwiches. Most of the burgers and sandwiches are within the $6-9 range and the portions are very generous. Having eaten there many times before, I have several favorites but I decided to try something new; the Crab, Bacon, and Swiss sandwich on wheat. If you like seafood, you’ll love this sandwich. It comes loaded with crab meat and the bread is toasted to perfection. All of their sandwiches come with French fries, coleslaw and a pickle. A glass of Pinot Grigio was the perfect accompaniment to this sandwich.
My husband decided on the Steak and Cheese sandwich with peppers, onions, and mushrooms. That came on a French roll and looked scrumptious. He usually has a very healthy appetite but even he left a few bites on his plate. A nice cold beer was the perfect compliment to his lunch. Unfortunately, we left no room for desert. Maybe next time. So if you’re looking for a restaurant with great food, good prices, and a friendly wait staff, Peppers is the place. Just make sure to bring your appetite.
