From the Blog…

Sebago Brewing company pint glass filled with beer

I had a rare treat today…a sneak taste of the latest single batch brew from Sebago Brewing Company . I’m far from a beer “insider” (Like this guy ) and to get the chance to sample this fantastic brew before its release was a surprise bonus on my tour of the SBC’s brewing facility in the Gorham industrial park. (You can read Tom’s write up of the tour soon).  I’ve already put a trip to Sebago Brew Pub, Gorham on my calendar for more than just a quick taste. The scottish amber malt, scheduled for released January 25, was exceptional. I only wish I had a bigger cup.  Big thanks to Brewer, Ryan McCarthy for the preview and the tour.

Oh, I almost forgot…I got a sneak look (sorry no tastes yet)
of the upcoming Barley Wine aging in old whiskey barrels in their cold room…
Wow, this one sounds like another can’t miss.  This very limited batch
is coming in March and will only be available at the SBC locations in Gorham,
South Portland, Portland so make your plans now.

Quick change of plans for Saturday dinner Print E-mail

From the Blog…

I put Bresca on my short list of new restaurants to try but couldn’t get a reservation for Saturday when I called on Thursday. They said that the best thing to do is to plan on a week’s notice for a weekend reservation but they can usually fit people in the same day for Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.  Good to know. They were very nice and took my name and told me they would call if there was an opening.

So, quick change of plans and I’m heading over to another one on my list, Vignola. I’ve heard good things about them and can’t wait to try it for myself.  I had no problem getting a Saturday reservation for 2 at 7:00 so I’ll let you know how it was.

Too bad I couldn’t fit in the Belgian Beer & Cheese Tasting party from 2:00 to 5:30 but maybe next year.  I saw that Luke from BlogAboutBeer.com was going so I’m looking forward to his review. If you like Maine beer you should check out his blog. It is on the top of my list Maine food and drink related blogs.

Down East Magazine

Down East Magazine just came out with their “Best of Maine” issue and their pick for best Whoppie Pie was actually a tie between Cranberry Island Kitchen of Cumberland and Big G’s of Winslow .  Both of these are on my short list of must have Whoopie Pie but there can only be one true Best right?  My choice is…  click to continue

Just had the Lunch Burrito special from Mr. Bagel / Senorita Burrito in
Windham
.  This burrito is fantastic. I
got the Sweet Tangy Pork and it is out of this world. Great job. My only regret
is not getting two.

Who knew that Mister Bagel was Mexican? Wink

From the Blog….Happy Thanksgiving

cranberries.jpg This year’s Thanksgiving feast included my wife’s homemade cranberry sauce. She makes it with real Maine cranberries  (This year from Ricker Hill Orchards ). Her delicious twist on this traditional Thanksgiving sauce includes mandarin oranges and raw organic cane sugar. Give it a try.

Hope everyone has a safe holiday.
