Bite To Eat At The Kennebec Tavern Print E-mail
Written by Shirley
Friday, 20 March 2009

Four of us went to the Kennebec Tavern in Bath this week. My daughter and her boy friend the three course restaurantweekme. menu at $20.09.I had the special $12.95 sole stuffed with spinach and artichokes and my mom had fried clams. Liv had fried parsnip for an appetizer basicly potato chips, nothing special also the chicken piccata. That was o.k. but didn’t have much flavor. Brent had the pork which wasn’t much better. I had three nice sole rollups, but the stuffing was bland and the newburg sauce was canned. My mom’s clams were a little more successful, but a bit too large with the heads on to swallow. All meals came with undercooked (couldn’t cut ) broccoli. The rice was a pilaf with no discernible flavor.I had to send mine back as it was cold. The others would have too, but were too polite. The good news was the bread, nice crusty fresh white french bread. The whole meal cost $99, 20% tip included. The manager was polite and pleasant along with the wait staff, but that doesn’t excuse the food.

D’Angelo makes good. Print E-mail

Tuesday, 23 September 2008

I have to come clean… I am addicted to the chicken Cesar wrap from D’Angelo’s  sandwich shop .  Sometimes I eat them 4 times a week. I always order it on wheat with no croutons and provolone cheese.  It’s so bad that I just walk in and they say…”the usual?”

The other day I grabbed one to go and when I sat down to eat it, I was shocked. It was on white, with croutons and no cheese.  Never the less, I ate it anyway and quickly forgot all about the incident.  Well, today I went to D’Angelo’s in Windham to get my usual and they tell me it’s on the house. And, not just the sandwich, a drink and chips too.  They realized they had made the sandwich wrong last time and wanted to make good on it.  Wow, you don’t see that every day.   Thanks Ms. D’Angelo’s Manager lady (sorry I don’t know your name)!

That’s how you keep loyal customers coming back.

Quick Review of Mekhong Print E-mail
Written by Chris
Thursday, 15 May 2008

We hit Mekhong Thai early on a Saturday night, and had the place to ourselves for most of the meal.  The clean, ornately decorated interior of this restaurant is a nice contrast from Forest Avenue.  Our waiter served us complimentary crispy fried wontons with a spicy dipping sauce to snack on while we mulled over the menu, which has all the usual Thai favorites, as well as lunch specials and take-out options.  Our choices were the pad thai and the stir-fried vegetables with garlic sauce, set off nicely by Sapporo beer.  The pad thai was delicious, with perfectly cooked noodles, crunchy sprouts, large chunks of chicken, and big, tender shrimp.  The stir-fry was excellent, as well, flavorful and fresh.  Prices were low to moderate, with our choices in the $8 to $10 range, but the portion sizes were extremely large, and I could easily have made two meals out of either dish.  Overall, a very good family dining or take-out option.

Dinner out at Vignola Print E-mail

From the blog…

For my birthday, husband surprised me with dinner reservation at Vignola on Dana Street in Portland.  We had never been to Vignola before and I was excited to try it.  We arrived right on time for our 7:00pm reservation.  We were both dressed casual, but nice.  The restaurant was relatively small and intimate and probably is capable of seating 50 people.  The decor was unique with dark woods, glass and brick.  I was attracted to the light fixtures, which were fashioned out of empty wine bottles.  As my husband and I were seated, we immediately perused their extensive wine and beer offerings.  Vignola offers reasonable to higher priced wines and several wines are available by the glass.  They also had a wonderful selection of Belgian beer.

Great Cup of Matt's Joe at NEPTS Print E-mail

From the Blog…

Matts Coffee Company I was over at the New England Products Trade Show in Portland this morning to scope out some of the Maine made foods and drinks.  I have to thank Matt’s Coffee for brewing one of the best decafs I have ever had. Anyone who drinks decaf can tell you that most of the time it’s terrible so finding a really good tasting one is noteworthy. It had smooth coffee flavor with none of the bitterness and nasty aftertaste that I ususlly associate with the word decaf.  It took about 30 seconds for them to brew my cup with this cool little gadget called an AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker. It is a really fast way to make a single cup.  Matt’s coffee is organic and wood roasted in Waterville, Maine. You can find their coffee at www.mattscoffee.com where they sell direct and wholesale.
